Well, it has begun!
Its Alive!… well almost, I have managed to make the inner frame hold its self together well enough to take these photos. The technique they use for the joints looks good in theory but fails in practice. The joints don’t perform as they should, so this kit when complete will be moved in to position and will stay that way for a very long time.
Lots of grouting and drilling with heaps of sanding and cleanup still to be done.
All the major joints use a spring and gear set-up where I think you have to force the limbs into position and the gears kinda click into position. Now this only works on a few joints, the remaining joints actually tear up the resin from the inside so my plan is to cut the springs so the gears aren’t so tight. It is kinda hard to explain but like I mentioned above, good in theory and bad in practice.
The amounts of parts is kinda deceiving, its looks like a lot but once you get going there doesn’t seem to be so many. Unlike a perfect grade where you build the inner frames from a million little pieces this uses quite a few larger pieces with all the details moulded in.
I have left off some of the detail parts that get glued stuck on just because they will be painted separately anyways.
The MAC Forums have a competition running at the moment from Jan 1 2012 for 6 months and I have entered this kit plus one other. I have intentions of entering quite a few more as I complete each kit in turn.
